Thoughts On How To Get Rid Of Black Ants That Come Into The Kitchen

Posted by Carl Hartley

There are approximately seven billion human beings spread across the planet and about seventy million times that number of red and black ants. That is the context in which the question of how to get rid of black ants needs to be considered. How to get rid of ants in the house and how to get rid of ants in the kitchen can also be considered in the same context.

They have been here for about for about one hundred and twenty million years, as against human beings who have only been here for four million years at most. It is not surprising to find that they have super efficient social systems and work ethics that surpasses those of any known race of human beings. It might also be expected that at least some of the twelve thousand species are likely to be here when human beings have become extinct.

The relative positions of human beings and insects on the earth that spins in space suggests that we might be seen as temporary residents who are something of a nuisance. Since the likelihood of an individual resident ridding the planet of them is effectively zero it could be prudent to reconsider the possibilities. A feasible solution might be to come to terms with the one colony that has been foraging in your house.

This is not altogether easy. It is annoying to find some butter that has been left on a table covered with busy workers transporting it back to their nest, bit by bit. Although it is quite easy to put the butter under a tap and wash them off, they can be a much more serious nuisance in other circumstances.

Black carpenter ants cannot transform a human house into an ant palace as termites can because carpenters cannot digest wood although they can chew it and make their nests out of it. Most species can also nip painfully when they find themselves on an expanse of human limb and can leave piles of residue in room corners, giving the impression that they are undermining the structure in which one has invested.

Like human beings ants live in communities. Some people even believe that every individual acts in concert with others for the good of the community. That is their strength but also a weakness that has been exploited by human beings.

One method of destroying an entire colony is to mix deadly chemicals with tasty morsels that they need, such as sweetness and fat. This bait is placed near the main highways and when found by workers is hastily removed and fed to the queen of the colony who will get sick and stop laying the millions of eggs that are needed for the survival of the community. Such is the defect of monarchist systems that can be destroyed by cunning.

Those who cannot bring themselves to engage in such underhand tactics can adopt a more usual human strategy, locate the nest and obliterate it entirely using bombs, fire and gas. The problem with such warlike tactics is that they usually involve great expenditure and damage for the aggressor and more space for a new colony to move in when victory has finally been secured. Negotiation is usually preferable and here computer technology comes in useful. Online sites dealing with how to get rid of black ants can be consulted. They will reveal dozens of tried and tested methods ranging from cinnamon as a detriment to a white chalk line which ants will accept as a boundary over which they will not step.
