Top Summer Garden Plants

Posted by James Watson

Gardening in Britain can be a frustrating occupation. There are those hardy perennials such as roses that keep returning year after year, but finding garden plants that will tolerate the extremes of both winter frosts and summer droughts yet reliably produce beautiful flowers to cheer us can be a bit of a challenge. Plus any sharp frosts and hosepipe bans will always throw a curve ball at any of our horticultural aspirations.

During droughts, look for Mediterranean garden plants with silver leaves and a strong scent, like lavender or rosemary. The oil on the leaves creates a sun screen to reduce water loss, they have deep roots which tap into reserves during summer and do most of their growing during the winter.

Lavender produces sweet smelling mauve flowers right through the summer months which attracts bees and rosemary's aromatic leaves are wonderful with roast lamb plus it produces an attractive bush and a pretty small light mauve flower.

Some plants are able to store water in their stems, bulbs and leaves, whilst others have tap roots that efficiently tap into any moisture that is around. Lupins are sensibly tall plants that provide pretty blue flowers plus good architectural planting. More exotic flowers such as dahlias which are not that native to Britain have adapted quite well and produce large balls of colour from white, light yellow, coral pink, mauve, orange through to deep red, and poppies will make an attractive splash of red colour across any town or country garden.

Gardening with basic garden tools like a good fork to aerate the soil and a hoe to attack those nasty weeds will help to create a canopy of leaf cover which again helps to regulate water loss during a drought. Plus water well both morning and evening if there is no ban. Also a covering of gravel can help to filter difficult rain and protect plants and seeds in the winter and helps to conserve water in the summer.

There are a few options when trying to grow and maintain summer plants, if you're an impatient gardener and want beautiful flowers in your garden straight away why not opt for plug plants. If you are that type of individual who likes see the progress of their gardening, then why not plant some garden bulbs of some beautiful summer tulips.

There are different party themes you may use to create a beautiful outdoor party. Look through the list below and see which one will fit best the personalities of the people that are going to attend your outdoor party.

Barbeque Party Hosting a barbeque party is a great way to put everyone at ease. There is something so casual with barbeque that automatically makes people comfortable. I would encourage you to practice due diligence and check your barbeque supplies before the party to make sure that everything is working perfectly before the party. Members mark grill parts is a great source of grill parts if you ever need one.

Pool or Beach Party This is really not a unique concept but you can most certainly give it a unique twist. Start with the invitation. Attach a pair of sunglasses and sunblock when you give it out to your guest. The details of the party may be found on the label of the sunblock. Having a pool is necessity but you can put several children's pool with lots of ice to chill drinks. Use beach pail as utensil holders at every table. You can do more activities like water balloon fight, bubble blowing, sand castle game, and others.

Outdoor Music Just because you are outdoors doesn't mean you can't enjoy music. Put some speakers around the garden and have a remote control handy so you can enjoy any music that you want. Make sure you have a wide selection so you can respond to guests' request. This is really perfect for your barbeque parties. I suggest that you check out the members mark grill for your barbeque party needs.

Pick Up Party Tell your friends that when and where the party is going to be will be unannounced and you will just show up in their house to pick them up as they are. They cannot dress, cannot take a bath, cannot fix themselves up. They will proceed to the party with you how you found them. The one thing that is exciting is seeing everyone in their most unguarded moments.

I hope this got you off started in some of the things you need to prepare for your party. Always remember that what remains to be the most essential thing is having the people that are most important to you during a party. That will surely make your time a great one.

Shade Sails – The Ideal Shade Solution?

Posted by Raphael Nitchals

The notion of protecting the skin from the sun by shading it with some type of material has been with us for a very long time. There are recorded explanations of the ancient Egyptian use of cloth to prevent the royal family from sunburn and the discomfort of overheating in the sun. Today we do not have to build pyramids, but we continue to intentionally expose ourselves to sunlight while we frolic and play in the great outdoors for entertainment and relaxation. To protect ourselves, new age replications of the ancient methodology in the form of shade sails are the trend for the future.

While the allure of sunning comes from the relaxation and calmness it brings to the healthy skin tone among lighter skinned individuals, nearly everyone enjoys being out in the sun. It is ironic that only a few generations ago, the darkening of the skin was actually not a positive thing. It was looked down upon as a "farmers tan" and implied a lower status of living.

Times have changed to the extent that even those who achieve their healthy tan from farming no longer have the attached stigma of performing some lesser value to society. The health drive in this country has driven us back to the realization that without the farming industry, the country would be in dire straits indeed. It is with a certain irony that the tanning industry has become a mammoth capitalist enterprise, as masses of Americans spend gleefully on products which even allow tanning at night.

Certain areas of the country benefit disproportionately to this sometimes fanatical drive to be outdoors. Those areas that experience sunshine most of the year, and especially those that have bodies of water as well are swamped with visitors eager to play in the sand and surf under sunny skies. A phenomenon of amazing proportion has sprung up around the spring breaks college students take advantage of. It seems nearly a requirement to take off from college in the spring and amass in places like Florida and California for some wild and crazy fun and release during the spring. This event has its down sides of course, but that has not slowed the event at all.

It is fact that exposure to the sun is beneficial for the creation of Vitamin D in moderation, with the skin capable of producing approximately 10,000 units of vitamin D with 20 to 30 minutes of sun exposure. The key concept here is moderation. Unfortunately for those who enjoy being outdoors, it is a rare event that lasts only 30 minutes. When we go out to enjoy the sun, it is likely to be for an afternoon, if not the whole day.

We expose ourselves to the sun to get a great tan because it makes us look young and virile, but this effort carries hidden dangers. Without adequate sun protection factor creams, which were not available to the public until the 1970s, the sun is damaging us with the UV portion of the sun rays. This damage can come in the form of premature wrinkling of the skin, leaving it with a leathery appearance in extreme cases. The damage we attain from exposure to the sun accumulates over time and unprotected exposure for even minute amounts of time each day will add up.

But the king of all the problems with unprotected exposure to the sun is skin cancer. While the majority of skin cancers are treatable forms of basal cell carcinoma, the treatment is at best unpleasant. This has spawned yet another industry in the form of UV resistant skin care products. For those for whom the call of the sun is unavoidable, these skin care products with sun prevention factors of varying strengths have provided a means to stay safely in the sun.

We have a vast array of creams, oils, and ointments we can apply to protect us from UV rays, but they all seem to have the same drawback. There is just something inherently icky about applying oil to the skin before going to the beach. In addition to the discomfort of feeling oiled up, blowing sand now sticks everywhere it touches. When we decide to cool off in the water, we wash off our protection, at best this means we have to re-oil ourselves, at worst we are once again in the sun without protection. It would be wonderful if public beaches all installed shade sails so the public could enjoy the sun in greater safety.

To discover more about shade sails as well as the remarkable advantages they can provide in Ultra violet protection, be sure to pay a visit to various other helpful on-line sources. For the French market the single most beneficial and educational websites is called Voile d'Ombrage, which is one of the words and phrases the French employ to describe shade sails.
