Find Out How to Eliminate Stink Bugs? – Five Techniques

Posted by Mike Martins

The Stink Bugs are walking with confidence within the the US and are taking over our country slowly and steadily.

You should consider certain important things in order to be capable to deal with them effectively and remove them permanently.

Make use of pesticides to fight an active infestation in the garden.

At this time you can find pesticides with Dinotefuran, which were banned for use on orchards some time ago. However, lately the experts started continually pushing to ensure that products with this particular component get authorized for use on fruit trees.

The names of the insecticides including it are "Venom" (Valent BioSciences) and "Scorpion" (Gowan Co. LLC). Be sure to always bear in mind that this kind of toxins can be harmful for your health and also to the environment (e.g. destroying other bugs, which might be good for your plants).

When possible consider the use of predators to battle the shield bugs. Nowadays, this way is quite popular among the garden and orchard owners. The predator may be just a different kind of bug or even a bird, that is having the Stink Bugs as an element of their own day-to-day food.

Always consult people who have expert knowledge before you make such a move, because there is the danger of getting rid of the Shield Bugs, but also adding an additional pest to your enemy list (the European Starling for example - a bird regarded as a farming pest, but in addition as a natural predator to the shield bugs).

Look at the option of utilizing non-toxin comprising do-it-yourself alternatives. Types of such are:

- Water and soap solution for spraying your plants and also the pests

- Chili sauce, which you will need to apply on the insects and vegetation

- Place mint leaves close to your garden production or home

Note: These techniques are a little portion of the things you may find on the internet as means to address an infestation, but bear in mind, that not all of them are proven to work.

To be able to safeguard your home from an invasion always consider some preventive measures. Do not think it will not happen to you. The preventive steps are:

- Tomato plants are considered a favorite food for the unwanted pests. If you've got tomatoes in your garden, put them as far away from your own home as you can!

- Don't plant tomatoes at all, if it is not a problem for you.

- In case you have worked in the backyard during the day, always investigate your clothes carefully before getting into the house. The pesky insects could be on your clothing and you simply may not notice it.

- Check the fresh fruits or vegetables you are taking indoors. There may be Stink Bugs on a few of them.

If you already have them in your house, try out the following methods to eliminate the very first warning signs of an infestation:

- Vacuum them up. This can be a perfect solution, considering the fact that you won't need to be utilising any kind of harmful chemicals in your house, which may put in danger you and your family.

- Inspect all dark and isolated spots. The shield bugs are laying their eggs on places, where they feel secure. Clean all signs of the pesky insects you might find.

- Utilize a dusting treatment by spraying it throughout the house and attics. The dust treating chemicals have a very long-lasting effect and might push away the invaders.

- Use the services of a competent pest control man. I am personally not recommending this method as it might cost you a lot of money with almost no result. Nevertheless it needs to be within your arsenal of tools against the infestation.

In the end I would like to wish you luck in your own fight. Be prepared, as it could often be a very long one. At the end of my battle I was a winner and I believe that you can certainly be a winner as well! Best of luck!

Pests in one kind or the opposite are found throughout the world. whether or not they are the insects, bacteria, mites, snails, nematodes, viruses, rodents or birds, all return beneath the pinnacle pest if found in unwanted areas or in unnecessarily huge numbers. Pests have the potential to wipe out entire economies and build the individuals starve if allowed to propagate and act unchecked.

Even the traditional civilizations understood the need of pest management. Those days, pesticides on the market from natural sources were used. With the appearance of the economic age and fast growth of population, demand for food and raw materials from natural sources increased manifold necessitating a lot of areas coming back below business agriculture. Chemical pesticides or artificial pesticides proved their value throughout this era as they not solely might take away pests from massive areas in no time, the left overs conjointly may act as repellents too for a few amount of your time. That they're offered to counter every kind of pest infestations beneath the sun makes a lot of and a lot of folks gravitate towards them in no time.

Chemical pesticides are classified into 2 teams per their efficiency. The broad spectrum pesticides have the potential to eliminate or incapacitate a good array of species. The slender spectrum ones destroy solely alittle cluster of species.

However, the strengths of those pesticides are, sadly and ironically, their biggest weaknesses too. These poisons act uniformly, with damaging results, on harmful and friendly animals alike. they need even caused the extinction of the many bees, butterflies and alternative insects from the plant.

However, chemical pesticide makers currently advise the user regarding the number of poisons to be applied, how and once they need to be used, and the way they ought to be handled. Researches also are underway to create them surroundings friendly. Given all the drawbacks, the role these pesticides played in guaranteeing food security can not be undermined, until a viable or equally potent substitute comes up.

Termite Inspection is the Key to Preventing Damage

Posted by Russ Frank

Formosan subterranean termites were discovered in Tampa near Tampa International Airport in 1991. A termite inspection found an established colony in nearby Temple Terrace in 1999. Soon after that they were detected in a warehouse in South Tampa. In 2003, they were they were detected on Harbor Island, near downtown Tampa.

There can be little doubt that new Formosan termite colonies are now established in or near Tampa. Unfortunately, they haven't yet been found. Increased awareness is critical. The only options are frequent termite inspections by trained professionals and, if needed, immediate treatment. The silent invasion by the Formosan termite leaves few other options.

It's obvious that Tampa and the west coast of Florida are at risk. But the scope of the problem is much wider. Within Florida the Formosan termite has been found in at least 14 other Florida counties. The risk actually extends to all coastal communities in Florida and beyond that to the entire Gulf Coast. And to top it off, Formosan termites, once established have never been eradicated from an area.

Fact: 90% of the buildings in the French Quarter of New Orleans are infested by Formosan termites. Control of Formosan termites and repair of the damage they cause cost New Orleans property owners $300 million annually. Formosan termites are also considered the single most economically important insect pest in Hawaii.

A typical Formosan termite colony has a gigantic appetite. Experts say the average native subterranean termite colony can consume around 7 pounds of wood per year. On the other hand, a Formosan colony can ingest more than 1,000 pounds of wood. To understand the difference, look at the size of the colony. Colonies of Formosan termites can number more than 10 million termites. Colonies of native subterranean termites often are less than 1 million termites.

Formosan termites attack a much wider array of food sources, such as furniture, books and even living trees. They can be extremely persistent in finding a way into buildings. Unlike other types of termites, they can chew through thin lead, copper sheeting, PVC, foam insulation boards, plaster, asphalt, rubber, and some plastics to find wood. They can find even the smallest (1/16") cracks through concrete.

How can the dreaded Formosan subterranean termites be controlled or prevented? Fumigation, while is effective against drywood termites, it doesn't affect Formosans very seriously. They have both above ground and underground nests. Fumigation will kill some workers, but the strength of the colony won't be diminished very much. Fumigation should never be considered the primary treatment method for Formosan termites.

Bait stations have been use to detect and prevent termites since the mid 1990's. These devices work by attracting termites and then using very small amounts of slow-acting poison to kill the colony over many months. These bait stations are very effective when used by a trained termite professional. Over many years they've become the primary tool used to protect and treat properties from Formosan termites.

Property along the entire Gulf Coast, from Florida to Texas is in danger from Formosan termites. The only effective protection available to property owners is to find a termite professional that offers a protection program. These programs typically include an annual termite inspection and the installation and monitoring of bait stations.

Which costs less, termite protection or termite damage? The damage costs a lot more that simple protection. Step one is a professional termite inspection. Call Florida Bug Inspectors to begin your protection today.

The Straightforward Pest Proofing Fix Every Homeowner Needs

Posted by Ancel Tallada

Question: I need some pest proofing ideas to keep the critters, bugs and vermin outta my house and garage.

Most of us have little tolerance for the creepy crawlies in our homes. Luckily it's not hard to keep them where they belong, outside. In fact there are quite a few simple things anyone can do to pest proof their home. It all starts by walking the perimeter of your house looking for points of entry.

Seal or repair any and all cracks around windows, doors, siding, using a high quality caulking or expandable foam. Same goes for openings where electric, A/C, cable, or telephone lines. Driver vents and faucets should be sealed off too.

It's smart to use those yellow bug bulbs which don't emit the white light that attracts flying insects. Keep them away and the spiders that feed on them stay away. All of which lessens the chances of any sneaking in when you're conducting business with the pizza delivery guy on your front porch.

Don't leave food for your pets outdoors. This can only attract wild animals in search of a meal who may decide to set up house keeping in your garage, under your deck or worse in your basement. Store any leftovers overnight in an tightly sealed container.

Keep shrub and tree branches trimmed so they don't touch the siding, foundation or roofing. Otherwise you're creating an on ramp for critters looking to settle into the house somewhere.

Repair gaps, holes and tears in window and door screens replacing as needed. Doing so will cut down on gnats and flies who gain entry this way. Other insects seem to like to walk on screens and holes or gaps make it easy for them to just walk into your house.

Install 20 mesh (or less) insect screening on all attic or exhaust fans.

Inside, empty the garbage to keep from attracting bugs and vacuum often so as to suck up any roaming the floors or carpet.

Look. Prevention is always going to cost you less than cure. So don't wait until you have a problem to get zealous about preventing the problem. Act on these ideas and start to screen out more uninvited guests starting today.

Has the bed bugs outbreak got you worried? Do you know what to watch for, what the bites look like or how to go about treating for bed bugs? Yeah what should you do should you discover your bedroom is infested with these little blood suckers? Relax. BedBugBedlum.com can help with that.

Know The Facts About African Bees

Posted by Russ Frank

Killer bees, also known as Africanized Honey Bees were first identified in 2002. They are now well established in South Florida and several other areas of the state. While these bees are less predictable and a bit more dangerous than European bees, they don't deserve the title "killer bees." But for their own safety, Florida residents will need to gain an understanding of African honey bees.

Although African bees have been called aggressive, their reactions are actually defensive in nature. Compared to European honey bees, they swarm in defense in larger numbers, they defend a much larger territory, and they chase intruders much further. Regular honey bees may chase you about 50 yards, while Africanized bees will continue chasing for 150-200 yards or more. Unsuspecting animals and humans may be caught by surprise and seriously hurt by killer bees.

European bees have fuzz-covered bodies with black rings on their abdomen - just like killer bees. Although they are just a bit smaller, Africanized honey bees look identical to European bees. Even experts can't tell the difference visually. There are only 2 ways to distinguish - take 25 different body measurements or do a genetic analysis. The best advice on avoiding African bees is to avoid all bees.

European bees and Africanized bees prefer different types of nesting locations. Smaller nesting locations are preferred by African honey bees because they have smaller colonies. So they end up nesting in places like water meter boxes, inside cement blocks, larger flower pots and cavities in the ground that European bee colonies would not normally use. Unfortunately, many of these locations are provided for killer bees by humans and explain why encounters between African bees and people are more frequent than for regular bees.

Honeybees are considered by some experts to be the most economically important insect in the world. Some estimates indicate that one third of the food we eat would disappear without honey bees. Honey bee pollination in the U.S. has been valued at more than $14 billion by a Cornell University study. Bee pollination services in Florida generate about $150 for every dollar of honey produced .

It would take a significant number of bee stings to prove deadly. Estimates from experts run between 5 to 10 stings per pound for a normal, healthy person. For a 150 pound person, that's 750-1500 stings. The typical reaction to a sting is swelling around the stung area. That's NOT the same as an allergic reaction. Those people with an allergy to bee stings are in the minority. They are less than 1 percent of the population.

Treating bee stings carefully can reduce the pain involved. Remove stingers by scraping sideways with a fingernail or credit card. Never pinch to remove them. That could pump even more venom into your body. Remove stingers quickly because they can continue to pump venom into your body for up to 10 minutes.

The way to reduce the risk of killer bees is to eliminate any and all nesting sites. Remove any object that could become a nest. Seal up any available openings greater than 1/8 inch or block the entrance of utility boxes and vents with 1/8-inch hardware cloth. Another safety measure is to inspect your property every week or two between March and July to check for unusual bee activity.

Florida is now home to established colonies of killer bees. Any colony of bees in the wild has the potential to be an Africanized bee colony. The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is now recommending that any wild bee hives be exterminated by certified pest control operators. Contact a certified pest control operator if you locate a colony of bees on your property. Make sure they are experienced in bee removal.

Pest Proofing Against Asian Lady Beetles

Posted by Ancel Tallada

When you think of lady bugs what comes to mind? Pretty, orange and harmless. Well, this isn't the case with Asian lady beetles. These are pests you don't want in your home. They usually migrate during fall, looking for a warm place to winter over. If they stopped by your house for a visit, don't let them in. Once you do, your home will become their home.

Here's the problem. These bugs are known as "reflex bleeders." This means that they squirt a foul smelling liquid when they feel threatened. This fluid can leave stain marks and if ever you get it on your hands or fingers, it'll make you hold your breath. So if you don't want some smelly blots on your walls, curtains or furniture avoid using the broom or a brush to sweep them away.

For that reason you don't want to wait until the last minute to protect your home from these pests. Check your windows for any gaps. Make sure nothing can crawl in under your doors - garage door included. Double check your screens for tears and make sure they're mounted securely.

Yes, traps to control these bugs are sold online and via catalogs. To be honest these have limited effectiveness and don't put much of a dent in the number of beetles seeking shelter in your home. It's like raising a tent next to a five star hotel. Which would you find more appealing?

Let's say you have a three-story house and it's nearly impossible to seal each window off. Your local pest control company will be able to help. They can spray insecticide on the outside walls before the bugs have the chance to go near it, which is usually after the first hard freeze.

Okay but what if these bugs have managed to get inside your home? What's next?

Don't even think about reaching for the insecticide spray can. This will trigger their defenses and will leave your beautiful walls and curtains with smelly, yellow stains. Some bugs may even find shelter in wall panels that the spray can't reach and survive your efforts.

No, this situation calls for immediate sucking action. So reach for your vacuum cleaner and suck those buggers in before they can squirt. You can just leave them in the vacuum bag to perish in the trash. Or you can do the humane thing by releasing them if it's warm enough outside. Your choice.

Unfortunately, you won't get rid of every single lady bug that's living in your house. Nor can you keep out the most determined no matter how tight your pest proofing scheme is. But you can reduce the likelihood of an infestation by using the right preventive measures.

Can you spot the signs of bed bugs? Ancel Tallada shares his knowledge of them at BedBugBedlum.com. If you're not sure what a bed bugs bite photo looks like, what their bites look like, or where do bedbugs come from maybe you should click over there now?

Termite Prevention Tips

Posted by Dr. Doug Asher

There are many reasons that we have a hate relationship with termites, the biggest being when they invade our homes and cause billions of dollars in damage and treatments annually in America. These little creatures can't see, and prefer to avoid light, so it begs the question how and why they invade our homes. It is not known if these guys are random in selecting our homes, or if deliberate, but scientists believe early signs point to a very deliberate termite.

The number one reason that they invade our homes is moisture, these little guys send out special workers just to find moisture, the number one thing, they need to survive. And when they find it, they bring their entire family to make full use of that moisture. Termites will exploit that leaky spigot or hose and even an a/c drip line. When a termite breaks the surface or the soil or wood that they are eating, they always seal up the break with a mud tunnel. Mud tunnels are made of saliva, termite fecal matter and soil, it prevents moisture loss and protects the termites from losing that precious liquid giving them full access to what they need.

One reason is moisture, this is a very essential ingredient that will attract more termites to the moisture rich area versus the really dry area. Termites will break the surface of the soil or wood they are eating and actually use their saliva, fecal matter and soil to make a mud tunnel to close the gap, this tunnel helps hold in the moisture they need to survive and enables them to eat and search the areas for more food. This is why a group of termites are sent out to search for a readymade source of water, and when they do they colony makes full use of it.

As homeowners we unwittingly supply termites with the supply of water, from our dripping faucets, leaky pipes, sprinklers aimed improperly, and overwatering contribute to being the #1 over supplier of water.

Moving your siding to above grade and wood piles and debris away from the home will also help prevent them, when left alone these things can give termite free reign and an all you can eat buffet. You may want to move the wood to a place where it's off the ground, for added security and peace of mind.

To prevent termites from finding your home tasty and appetizing there are some quick and simple ways to prevent them. First you may need to contact a handyman to remove/repair the wood that touches the ground and take away that entry area for the termite. Second you will need to repair that leaky faucet or move the a/c drip line away from your home. This will make your home less appealing to any termites, but by no means is it foolproof to stop termites from striking your home, just makes it a little less appealing.

Tips from a professional!
