The Right Way to Find Mower Parts Online

Posted by Dustin Nelson

No matter how good a lawn mower you buy, eventually you are going to need to buy replacement parts for it. You may be able to find them at a local service center, but odds are, they will not have them in stock or you will pay a premium for them. The best way to buy mower parts is online, but in order to do it safely, you need to know what you're doing.

The tricky part is finding the right source for your replacement mower parts. Start by analyzing the terminology used by the online dealer. Some say they sell only "OEM" or "OES", while others advertise "Aftermarket" parts. What are they talking about?

"OE" stands for Original Equipment, while the 'M' stands for Manufacturer and the 'S' stands for Supplier. In either case, the dealer is selling mower parts that were either manufactured for the original equipment or manufactured under authority to replace the original equipment. These are mower parts manufactured specifically for your machine.

Aftermarket mower parts are a different kettle of fish. These are copies or "knock-offs" of original parts made for older machinery. They are cheaper than OEM parts for a reason: they are made with cheaper materials to less exacting technical standards. If you're lucky, they will work for awhile, but they usually wear out very fast and need frequent replacement.

Don't make OEM mower parts your only criterion for finding what you're looking for online. Don't forget, the internet is global in scope and some people set up websites solely for the purpose of making easy money and are not backed up by a history of reputable service. The company you buy from should be one that has an actual dealership in the U.S., where there are laws protecting the consumer.

Another reason why you want to buy from an established dealership is because you know for sure when they say they offer "OEM mower parts" they are telling the truth. As authorized dealers, these are the only ones they are allowed to sell.

The next thing you need to do is try to site before you make your purchase. How easy is it for you to find the mower parts that you need? Do they have an easily navigable parts look up catalog? Does it include diagrams that show the exact parts you need and where they are located on the machine? If so, you will always be able to find what you need, even if you're not quite sure of its name or number.

The last thing you need to do is find out who their customer representatives are and how your order is going to be processed. To save money, some online companies outsource their order processing and customer service to India and other distant countries. You want to deal directly with the company in the U.S., not with a semi-skilled representative who probably won't be able to help you with your questions about mower parts. Dealing with a company directly online is as good as walking into their spare parts department and speaking with them in person.

Save money on labor expenses , part expenses and eliminate the need to haul your mower to and from the repair center. Get the exclusive low down on how to buy mower parts on the internet now in our overview of the best choice of lawn mower parts.

Don’t Let The Weather Keep You Snowed In. Snow Chains Keep You On The Road

Posted by Darinn Anderson

If you've never lived in or traveled to an area that has a lot of snow, chances are you're knowledge of snow chains is limited. A type of traction device, tire chains help enable you're vehicle to drive through snow and ice with minimal skidding and slipping as well as take off and brake with less skid than if you were simply using regular or all weather tires. Because the chances are great that you've had little experience with snow chains (otherwise you would not need to read this), we'll provide you with some usage and installation tips that could prove to be very valuable to you.

Snow Chains Installation Process

If you have more than one vehicle that will be driving in the snow or ice, be prepared to have a set for each vehicle. Snow chains are typically sold in pairs and are specific to the tire size on the vehicle you'll be putting them on as well as the vehicle make itself. Seasoned snow chain owners keep their chains in the trunk or back of the car just in case a snap snow storm comes up. Snow chains can be installed any time and you'll often see people on the side of the road putting them on.

Putting snow chains on your car is very simple. This is what you'll be doing:

First: Locate the lever which will hold the chains on the tire

Second: Wrap the snow chains around the tire. Make sure the outside edge is in line with the middle of the tire

Third: The clasp one end of the chain is secured to the other end with a clasp

Some chains are self tensioning and self adjusting. These are among the easiest chains to use as a person can typically get both chains on the tires and be back in the car in 5-minutes or less.

You may be inclined to hire a tire specialist or service technician to install your chains. That's fine if you feel you can't do it. However, it's a good idea to learn the basic installation yourself in case you get stuck in a storm.

Safety Tips

1. Read the installation instructions and watch the online videos regarding your snow chains. Best to do this before they are needed!

2. Practice installing them and removing them.

3. Don't bother with a space in the garage for them. Simply put the snow chain case in your trunk

4. When it does snow, pay close attention to your speed and don't go over 30 miles per hour

5. Pay attention to local snow chain laws. Many places don't allow snow chains on roads where snow and ice aren't present. This is because they can ruin the asphalt. Find out the laws in your area by speaking with someone familiar with the laws such as the highway patrol or local police department.

It will make you feel extremely confident if you practice driving with snow chains on the car before you have to get out on the highway. After your first snow, as long as there is snow on the ground. Just practice going up and down your street. Remember not to drive too quickly and practice going forward, backing up and pay attention to braking. Again, you don't want to damage the road, so make sure there is snow or ice on the road. It takes a little time to learn how to safely brake the vehicle, so start very slow.

If you've ever been a spectator to people driving in the snow and on ice, you no doubt remember all the slipping, sliding, and rear ending that occurs. The most wonderful benefit of driving with snow chains is, this helps eliminate you being one of those poor drivers. You'll notice right away the control you'll have over the vehicle. Both with driving & maneuvering as well as braking.

In the years that Darinn Anderson has owned his small equipment shop, he's helped pair scores of locals with equipment that's perfect for their needs. He's found, that snow chains aren't much different. Once people know how they work, they're more comfortable using them. Don't stay homebound just because it's snowing outside, quickly find snow chains perfect for your car.

New Pool And Spa Codes

Posted by Amy Appleton

Two huge companies have combined recently to create a better pool and spa code for the year 2012. These giants are the International Code Council (ICC) and the Association of Pool Spa Professionals (APSP). Both will work closely to come up with the new code that will incorporate new ideas on pool and spa safety, energy efficiency and best practices. This will be the very first code that covers all types of pools, spas and hot tubs no matter if they are public or residential. It also covers aquatic recreation facilities.

Jay Peters, Code Council Plumbing, Mechanical and Fuel Gas Group executive director remarked that the ICC makes codes that keep people safe no matter where they live, work and play. The new pool and spa code will hopefully increase safety once it is passed because it will improve other codes that are being followed in 50 states.

The new code will reflect APSPs American National Standards-approved measures that are utilized on pools, spas, hot tubs and other recreational water facilities. It will also draw on ICCs expertise in building-safety codes, fire-prevention codes and energy-efficiency codes for both residential and commercial purposes. This will make sure that pool and spa construction, maintenance and operation requirements are consistent across the country and globally.

Adherents say that builders, manufacturers and code officials will use the same reference once the new code is used. Carvin DiGiovanni, senior director of Technical and Standards for APSP thinks the new code will be the most comprehensive pool and spa code to date.

The APSP is the largest international trade association of the swimming pool, spa and hot tub industry. It promotes consumer safety and enhances the success of its members. The latter follow a stringent code of business ethics and remain committed to public health and safety in the use of pools, spas and hot tubs. The ICCs building safety, fire prevention and energy efficiency codes are utilized in residential and commercial buildings. Most American cities, counties and states follow these codes owing to their outstanding quality.

Water Logging And Other Reasons To Replace Your Hot Tub

Posted by Karen Reader

As a hot tub owner, you are aware of the maintenance required to keep your hot tub working properly. You know that along with proper chemical cleaning that maintaining your hot tub cover can help keep your hot tub clean, prevent contaminants in your water and reduce heating bills. A hot tub cover can prevent dirt, dust, dead leaves and insects from entering your hot tub. It can also serve as a protective barrier for animals and small children. This is why its important to maintain your spa cover and replace it whenever necessary.

Are you aware of the many reasons for replacing a hot tub cover? In addition to the daily chemical abuse to your cover, water logging is a major reason for hot tub cover malfunction.

Even if you do everything in your power to properly maintain your cover, it will eventually need to be replaced due to water logging. You may think that snowfall and rain are the main reasons for water logging. However, the water found within the device is actually the reason covers deteriorate over time.

Manufacturers are aware that covers are extremely susceptible to moisture deteriorating and water logging. This is why they typically include a protective liner, known as a vapor barrier. These barriers come in various thicknesses and are made from a wide variety of materials.

Once water makes its way to the actual cover and foam, you may notice mildew, mold and germs growing. Such contaminants will eventually find their way back into your hot tub. That's why its critical to maintain your hot tub cover properly to protect the overall safety and health of hot tub users.

Your cover will become ineffective once water logging has started. It wont be able to provide safety or lower your electricity bills once it has been damaged by water. You can do your part to extend the life of your cover by periodically unzipping it to dry the foam.
