If asked the majority of people would say that the garden pond hobby is a relatively new phenomenon. The main reasons for this being its increasing cover on TV and in media circles.
In actual fact it has been around for thousands of years, offering enjoyment and inspiration in peoples day to day and religious activities.
As far as is known the earliest records of individuals creating water gardens for relaxation and pleasure date back to about 3000 BC. Fruit trees and decorative grasses were used by the ancient egyptians to surround pools of a formal layout in their walled courtyard gardens.
Wealthy Roman homes tended to be designed around a large colonnaded central courtyard with pools, fountains and water features, providing shade on hot afternoons and a means of escape from the often chaotic and dirty streets outside. However, public baths often had a water garden area where the general public could relax away from their daily troubles.
The Moors and Persians created truly intoxicating water gardens set in enclosed connected courtyards. The water courses and pools were built with brightly coloured ceramic tiles and together with a formal design to join the various courtyards, these gardens had an intimate and luxurious feel. The Moors and Persians also used fruit trees and decorative plants carefully arranged in formal compositions.
Individuals in Japan and China have been perfecting the art of water gardening for thousands of years. There it truly is an art, practised by the masters of the craft. The teachings of zen, harmony, peace of mind and restraint are used to carefully design and create the individual persons ideal of their perfect surroundings. Japanese water gardens chiefly focus on a large, deep and clear pond devoid of plant life but housing any number of attractively colourful koi carp.
Unlike the gardens of the Moors and Egyptians the Japanese garden is not really a place for fruit trees. The position of every tree and flower is carefully thought over, spiritual comfort and delight the only goals.
In Europe over recent centuries only the super rich and royalty could afford the decadence and opulence of ornate water gardens, you need only look at the huge amount of great homes in Europe with extensive watercourses and features.
Its only in the last few decades that we have enjoyed a Water Garden Renaissance, seeing interest expanding and growing as more and more people come to understand how spiritually restful and refreshing a well fashioned water garden can be.

In the United Kingdom today the amphibian popuation is swiftly dwindling and faces long term survival challenges of almost overwhelming proportions. The key factors leading to this decline are habitat loss, pollution and disease. Many experts agree that unless something significant is done we could see the loss of these amazing animals in our life-time.
When i think myself back to my childhood days I remember many a fine day as a boy with my friends at the local pools or the brook, endless summertime days of catching toads and frogs and sticklebacks (we always let them go!). I was lucky, i had a terrific childhood.
I travelled back to visit the region i grew up in a few years ago, and there is now a car park where those wonderful old ponds were. Obviously severely polluted the brook appeared dead with all visible life wiped out. These days in our over-developed urban regions such habitats are growing rarer and rarer.
Habitat loss is the dark, hidden side of development, it is relentless and its final. The development of umpteen sites has been checked and stopped when discovered to be home to natterjack toads or great-crested newts, our 2 most rare & wonderful amphibians.
There was a well publicized example recently where a colony of great-crested newts was resettled, at a great expense, to make way for a new runway at Manchester Airport.
Still the amount of waterways and ponds that were not fortuitous enough to house either of these two species and have been developed total in the thousands, extraordinary numbers of Newts, toads and frogs eliminated and the tremendous biodiversity of plants, animals and insects that dwelled there exterminated too.
As if this is not enough to deal with, the peril of dangerous viral contagions wont go away. Already we have experienced critical epidemics of Ranavirus in our frog populations in the south east of England. A non-native amphibian species is thought to have brought Ranavirus into the United Kingdom, most likely from North America. There is no cure at present. All three species of newt and the common toad are likewise at risk from infection.
Fortuitously, the rising popularity of natural gardening techniques and practices proposes a glimmer of hope in the struggle for the future of these unreplaceable and charming animals. Although there is no defence against the Ranavirus, anyone could effectively and easily contribute to the amount of possible habitat they have. Simple to create and manage, a wildlife pool will fascinate and educate all ages and can look truly stunning.
Even a really little simple pond can become an oasis, plentiful in biodiversity and of interestingness all year round. Then dont you think its time to bring a little piece of nature into your life, your kids lives? Go in the garden in the clean air and start creating!

More roses are sold in the few days before St. Valentine's Day than in any other comparable period in the year. Until not so long ago, people were aware of the significance of the colours of roses (I am pretty sure that it did not apply to other flowers too).
For instance, it would have been a serious faux pas to give a young teenage girl a red rose, but not a pink or a yellow one. All the colours had a meaning. However, it is a bit like reading Tarot cards, not everyone agrees on those significances.
Anyhow, out of interest and to keep the tradition going, I will give you the generally accepted significance of the colours of roses below.
'My love is like a red, red rose', so goes the poem and when most people think of a rose, the first colour that probably comes to mind is red and, in fact, the word ?rose? comes from the Latin word ?rosa?, which means red.
It is also true that red roses are the most common and the most bought colour, but there are so many other colours that there is an entire lexicon of significance that can be said with them.
Here are some colours and their meaning:
Red - Love, romance, beauty, obsession, yearning and respect
Burgundy - Unwitting loveliness
Red but withered - Our love is over
White - Wholesomeness, youth, pure love and virginal innocence
Pink - Happiness, admiration, gratitude and charm
Dark Pink - Thankfulness or thank you
Yellow - Joy, joy, companionship, delight or platonic love
Yellow with Red Tip - Falling in Love
Orange - Fascination, desire, or enthusiasm
Red and White - (a bouquet of roses of two colours) - Passionate wholesomeness or unity
Peach - Sincerity, gratitude, appreciation, modesty, esteem, or sympathy
Lavender - Love at first sight or enchantment
Black - Death or our love is over
Blue - Unfeasible, unattainable or mystery
Red Rosebud - Symbol of purity and loveliness
White Rosebud - Girlhood or youth
Thornless Rose - "Love at First Sight"
Single Rose - Straightforwardness
Two Roses - An engagement or impending marriage
Rose Leaves - Symbol of hope
Roses - Sent every month - loveliness ever renewed
Unfortunately, there no true black or blue roses in nature, as the pigment structures in the rose do not allow these colours to be developed, although it has not stopped gardeners attempting it for hundreds of years. However, there are some very dark purple roses, which are used in stead of black roses. There are also some very pale lavender roses that seem to be blue, but have a shade of pink in them. Traditionally, blue roses are generally white roses dyed.
No matter what you want to say with your flowers, a bouquet of roses can convey your feelings. So next time you give a bunch of roses, why not try to express what you want to say by selecting the colours carefully. The recipient almost certainly will not understand these day, but you could send them a copy of this article or have fun explaining the meaning to them over a bottle of wine.

Tips On Making A Homemade Hydroponics System
It used to be that hydroponics were thought of as being something used by regular people far into the future, but that is not true anymore. Many of today's home gardeners are using hydroponic systems in order to grow different plants and vegetables to supplement their grocery consumption on a regular basis. Hydroponic systems that are purchased ready made are usually very expensive. You can make your own Homemade Hydroponics System easy and inexpensively.
Hydroponics is a method in which one grows plants without the aid of using soil. The roots of the plants are placed in a soil-less medium or they may just grow in water itself. This is a cleaner method because there is no soil and you can grow plants indoors all during the year. A homemade system will not cost much and will save you money because you will have fresh vegetables any time.
The Wick System is a simple form of hydroponics. The system entails absorption of water and nutrient by nylon rope inserted into the pots in which the plants are growing. You only need a handful of supplies and none of them will cost a great deal
Make your own hydroponic system by starting with one black or dark blue plastic storage tub. You need a dark color to stop algae from growing in the liquid solution. Algae needs sunlight to grow and a dark container does not let it even get started. Also purchase a storage tub of the same relative size that will fit inside the dark one. In this tub you will place the pots your plants grow in. It can be the same color or any other color you wish. You need to purchase a few yards of half inch rope made from nylon. Also needed is an aquarium air pump that will keep your solution oxygenated. Get pots that fit into the one tub. These will be filled with a growing medium and the best used are pebbles made of clay that will absorb the solution and keep it for awhile or you can use equal amounts of vermiculite and perlite. You will never be able to duplicate the rays of the sun indoors so be sure to get some grow lights.
Each pot will need a length of the roping. Put one end of the rope through the hole in the bottom of each pot then place some of the medium in while holding the rope up. You want the rope to be in and amongst the roots of the plant and the other end will dangle a few inches to a foot below. Place the plants in the medium. In your tub that will hold the plants you will need to drill a half inch hole under where each of the plants will be situated. Pull the rope that dangles out of the pot through the hole so it dangles into the solution once you place the plant tub in the solution tub.
The only maintenance needed to keep this wick system going is to be sure the bottom tub has enough solution in it. Check at least once a week and better two times a week but this will depend on how much your plants drink. Grow your own lettuce and tomatoes and other vegetables so you will not have to go to the grocery and pay big bucks during the off season.

Gardens maintenance can quickly become a tiresome and frustrating task if you are doing it wrong. Your garden will tell you what needs to be done as the seasons change.
Autumn leaves falling create a beautiful carpet of color and should rather be enjoyed than raked every day. Let the tree finish the drop of leaves before you take action. Instead of working leaves into bags for disposal, simply rake them into your flower beds where they will form a blanket of protection against the frosty winter conditions that will soon threaten to kill your plants.
Roses can be pruned very precisely wasting hours of time. A quick and very efficient way of doing this job is to use a simple measure stick of 90 centimeters long. Simply push it down into the rose bed to a depth of approximately ten centimeters and cut your roses at the top level of the stick. From the cut off bushes you can now quickly make cuttings if you wish, or simply shred and scatter the cuttings over the rose beds. This layer will protect the roses from frost killing their roots.
Mowing the lawn at the inappropriate time of the month will see you doing this task every 5 days. Find a moon garden calendar and mow the lawn on days marked for stimulating growth if you need the grass to grow more, or choose a day marked as reduce growing. By doing this you can actually reduce the dreaded lawn mowing to twice a month.
Instead of spending your precious weekends on garden maintenance, rather do a small bit of work every day. Have a walkabout in your garden and remove all the dead flowers as you go along. Simply pull up any weeds you see on your way to work or whenever you walk in the garden. Refrain from letting the garden get out of hand by letting small jobs accumulate into massive projects.
A small amount of maintenance will see you enjoy a beautiful garden all year long.

If you want to send flowers to Russia, you should know about various things to do it in the right way. Even if you are sending gifts to a business partner, you can use these tips to do it in the right way.
For a birthday party, sending a flower will be considered good. You should at least have one flower if not a bouquet along with a gift. Gifting flowers to men was not common previously but you can do it nowadays.
While gifting flowers to men, you should take the advice of the professional florist. Most of them prefer to get different kinds of bouquets. Anniversaries or business occasions can also be celebrated by arranging flowers on a big table. This will be better than gifting bouquets to the boss.
During the days of communism, Christmas was not celebrated here. New Year Day was given more importance. But now, both of these holidays are equally celebrated with enthusiasm. You can ask your florist to make bouquets in a special Christmas color scheme. The type of bouquets for New Year day and Christmas are different too.
St. Valentines Day is also a romantic day celebrated a lot in Russia. One this occasion, you can send Red roses to your loved one. If you are gifting a bouquet, you should have it made in heart shape. You can ask for more options.
Womens Day is very important in Russia than anywhere else. It is one of the occasions when the florist industry is very busy. Every woman, young or old, expects to receive flowers on this day.
Flowers are sent on various occasions in St. Petersburg, Russia. Special arrangements like centerpiece and small bouquets are gifted on wedding days. For funerals, wreaths are laid that have flowers of different type. For wreaths, Casket Spray is used by the family members.
For various other occasions, you may have to either pay a visit to the florist or order online. In Moscow or St. Petersburg, you can find many professional florists than can not only arrange the best flowers but also advice you according to the occasion for which you are sending the flowers.

Many people enjoy coming up with different closet design ideas when it is time to do some renovating or remodeling. However, one big obstacle for some is the fear of not getting a closet system that will not perfectly match their current home decor.
In such case, you need not worry much because there are new bedroom closet designs that you can use. Today, you have various styles, colors and sizes to choose from. It isn't like yesteryears when closet are simply shelf and pole put together. There are also various materials these days that are used to come up with sturdier furniture that can last for a lifetime.
As time flies, the bedroom closet designs become even better with first-rate parts, more material and color choices, more organizers and grander choices on customizing the closet in order to fit in and satisfy individual needs, personal tastes and lifestyles. With wide range of choices, you can now achieve a closet design that perfectly suits not just you but your family as well. Some of the new and appealing trends in bedroom closet designs are:
Why not consider adding some closet organizers, shelves and racks to them. The materials required for you to accomplish this are readily available in the market and you have the option to customize it. Your creativity will be tested with these accessories but it is always fun to experiment on your various closet design ideas.
Do not be afraid to ask your friends for suggestions if they already have closets in their house, flip through the pages of a magazine, be more observant of the closets in the movies and get ideas from there.
Another important aspect to consider is the lighting. Never underestimate its power because it aids in easy access of your clothes, shoes, accessories and other belongings. Imagine a closet with poor lighting and you will find another poorly designed organizing system.
What you use most often and how you like to store your items are big factors here. Keep the items used the most in the center and at heights between your waist and eyebrows for the easiest use. If you prefer to fold pants instead of hang them or like to fold socks flat and in half, keep these habits in mind when you select a space for them.
All closets can be organized more effectively if you do not only settle for limited closet design ideas and use your creative mind in choosing which one suits you and your lifestyle.

The sliding closet door is one option available when thinking about installing or purchasing closets for a room. If you only have very limited space for a closet, then the sliding closet door will make sure that you can have access to the inside of your closet without having to worry about banging the door on the walls or the foot of your bed.
I would wait for an unsuspecting passerby, then jump out behind them while screaming ! Apparently, I was responsible for the "near heart attack" of many family members. I was so delighted !
Sliding closet doors come in many different types. You have the traditional wooden sliding closet door that gives the whole closet a warm look. Different types of wood or wood laminate with all the different combinations of wood color and grains, will give different effects to a room.
One thing I like about this type of door covering is the variety of styles they come in. The Sliding closet doors that are faced with mirrors are just lovely. They reflect the sunshine that comes in to the bedroom and it has such a glorious effect in the room. There is sun everywhere, being reflected and refracted all at the same time.
Or you may decide to have a sliding closet door which has a picture on it and this will provide the room it is located in with a much more homely feel. Certainly both of these types of sliding doors are regularly used on closets in bedrooms. Also, as many of the sliding doors that are available come in a variety of different woods they can add a real touch of warmth to any room.
Instead of mirrors, you can opt for glass sliding closet doors. These glass doors will give an open look to your closet and could give the room a more open feel. You have to keep your closet organized though or else the glass sliding doors would be counter-productive.
If glass is still your fancy but you don't really want everything inside of your closet to be seen, then frosted or stained glass sliding closet doors would be the other options. Otherwise, a combination of sliding glass and wooden doors could be the solution.
If space is limited, then the sliding closet doors is definitely the way to go. But even if you are not constrained by space limitations, the sliding closet doors will offer some nice decorating options that could enhance the overall theme of your room.
When it comes to custom closets online, getting the right information can be a daunting task. That's why we put together this confidential report for you at custom closet designs in miami fl

Anyone who enjoys crafts or hobbies knows the frustration of having to dig through everything to find what you need only to have to fight for a spot to work after the search. Many people stuff all of their items into a traditional closet and find it hard to use because they can't see what they have. Custom closets designed specifically for your craft is exactly what you need. Everything is kept neat and tidy while still allowing you to see exactly what you have so there is more time to be creative and less time spent hunting.
Old clothes, which you have worn too many times, become boring at the end of the season. So what do you do then? You heap them in your closet and give it an untidy look. But not to worry! Your closet organizer can keep them at suitable places making your closet look clean.
Horizontal shelving is ideal for scrapbooking papers, stickers, and other small items. If you are concerned about having them fall out, consider having them installed at a thirty-degree angle and use shallow wire baskets. These are also great for yarns and other oddly shaped items.
Smaller items such as pens, pencils, paints, and paintbrushes as well as supplies often pose a challenge for organizational systems. Having a series of small drawers is helpful for these kinds of items. You can fill them with spools, wooden shapes, die cuts and other items and keep everything separated. When you are ready to use them, you can pull the entire drawer out. For larger drawers, be sure to have moveable dividers.
It helps you to save time. It is organized and designed to suit a customer's choice and fancy. A whole new tidy and ordered look is imparted to your closet and your bedroom.
Plastic dividable containers are the hobbyist's best friend unless you don't have enough space to stack them up. Make sure to include a number of shelves that fit your various containers perfectly. Adding doors onto each will help you to hide the mass of containers when you're finished. For supplies that are just too nice to hide away, custom closets can have glass sliding doors to keep out the dust.
It helps in paper management helping store incoming information, setting them and retrieving data materials.
A closet organizer is needed not only by a disorganized person but is also required by a person who has no time to organize his closet. So folks, to save that precious time of yours get a closet organizer. Your bedroom can gain tidier look and its pristine looks adds to the beauty of your bedroom. So get smart and get a closet organizer.

The normal everyday swinging closet doors has advantages and disadvantages. The good thing about a hinged closet door is that it gives you a good solid surface for you to add closet decorations or a full-length mirror on the door to enhance your room.
I do like a Victorian design, but I like to brighten things up a bit in these kinds of homes. I want to maintain the architectural integrity, but I also want for it to feel livable and less weighty, if you know what I mean.
Hinged Closet Doors. The most common design of closet doors is the hinged or swing doors. These are attached to the closet using hinges, and can be swung open to reveal the content of your closet in full. The only problem with this type is the space it consumes in the room once opened.
Even with three sliding closet doors, there will still be one section of the closet that is blocked. Sliding doors will work really if you can slide them into the walls, but not many people have that luxury.
When you don't have a lot of space to spare for swinging open closet doors and you really need to access everything at once, then a bifold closet door is the answer. For small closets, one set one bifold doors is enough to comfortably operate.
Sliding. The sliding closet door is considered as a modern design. It is true that it saves floor space, but since one is built on the top of the other, only on side can be opened at a time.
This can be very difficult and we have had several false starts along the way. Fortunately, none of these were related to the individually, designed Bifold closet doors we used in the house.
The company we chose to assist us in our long-term project, was delightful, to say the least. It's nice to work with people who appreciate creative design and it's applications. I believe that the old Victorian house is now a welcoming home!
