Finding the Perfect Indoor Water Fountain

Posted by Jim Navary

There is a common expression that a man's (or woman's) home is his/her castle. This proverbial statement illustrates the principle of your individual right to enjoy your personal privacy at home. Your home is the one place where you can do what you want to do, when you want to do it. It is your much needed refuge from the stress of the outside world.

Making your environment at home as peaceful and pleasant as possible is only natural. One aesthetic way to add serenity to your home is to install an indoor water fountain. In addition to providing a visually appealing focal point, a quality water fountain will help reduce stress, mask unpleasant noises, and improve the general atmosphere in any room.

There are a seemingly endless number of fountain styles available today. Choosing the type and design of fountain that best fits your needs may seem to be quite a challenge. However a general review of your home decorating scheme can make that decision quite a bit easier. No matter what style you have chosen for your personal living space, it usually can be enhanced by an indoor water fountain that adds that special touch to your decor.

Does your home decor make use of rich colors, organic materials, natural textures, or exposed wood? Does your interior decorating style have a multi-cultural feel? If so, you may want to choose a fountain that is made from natural materials such as sandstone, granite, copper or slate. These types of materials would coordinate well with your decor.

Fountains that make use of stainless steel or brass combined with polished black stone or glazed ceramic would probably look great in a home with a contemporary decor. Modern floor mounted fountains can do double duty as a piece of fine art, adding to the contemporary style. Similarly, wall mounted fountains can make a bold statement and serve as an eye catching focal point.

Fountains with an Asian inspired theme are quite popular and would certainly fit in well with Asian decor. These fountains are also popular where the concept of feng shui is incorporated with interior design. Tabletop water fountains made from ceramic, stone, and bamboo are available as well as those with a simple, yet elegant, Zen garden theme.

Traditionally decorated homes are well suited for water fountains that have a classic style. Tiered basins, delicate scalloped edges and elegant scrollwork work well with traditional decor. Classic fountains are made from a wide range of natural and man-made materials. Finding one that enhances your particular decorating style should not be a problem.

Finding the perfect water fountain for your "castle" is your first step toward a new level of serenity. The perfect indoor fountain can help you counteract the stress of daily life through the peaceful sight and sound of gently flowing water.

Garden Sheds For Your Backyard

Posted by John A Moore

A trend that I'm seeing this year with respect to backyards is a return to vogue for backyard garden sheds. And it seems that the run of the mill pre-built wooden and metal sheds are not what most customers have in mind. No, the new trend this year is custom garden sheds - storage buildings with style are what people want this season.

Homeowners who are shopping for garden sheds this year are looking for something to make a statement, something to continue their landscaping theme, or a shed which custom fits their backyard hobby. The simple shed-in-a-box with four walls a roof, and a window with nail on shutters is no longer sufficient.

Some of my clients want to make their garden shed into a design element that carries on an old English garden cottage theme, some want a rustic hunting lodge theme, others are looking for a zen garden contemporary style. On the other end of the scale are clients who want to install a totally green eco shed, made with recycled materials, and customized to take advantage of all off-grid components possible - a solar panel and backup batter to run the lights, and a multi barrel rain water system to collect runoff from the sheds roof and gutter system.

One woman asked if I had seen a popular reality TV show featuring a family with eight children. I had not. She went on to explain that in a recent episode a carpenter built the children crooked houses as play houses. She wanted a crooked house theme for her garden shed. She said it was both practical and whimsical and it would make me the most famous shed builder in the area! She is trying to locate a copy of that episode for me.

The other clients that are looking for customized backyard sheds are concerned about functionality more than style. The green thumb house owners are looking for a place to store all their gardening tools and landscaping supplies, as well as provide a space to do some potting and start seedlings in the spring. There are many others with different hobbies that would like a custom built studio for such things as stained glass, pottery, and painting. All of these are ideal uses for a cute backyard garden shed.

Garden sheds; be they wooden or metal, functional or whimsical are all the rage this year. Outdoor living is very popular. Over the past decade we have seen innovations in bar-b-ques and outside patio furniture. We have seen the popularity of backyard decks soar. We have seen the advent of bug zappers and outdoor space heaters. It was only a matter of time before garden sheds took the spot light.
