Hydroponic Gardening – Offering Diverse Benefits To Our Environment
Hydroponic gardening is a common practice these days. This is a procedure of gardening without soil. The concept of hydroponic gardening was started thousands of year ago. The Floating Gardens of China and The hanging Gardens of Babylon proves the fact.
The word hydroponics has been derived from two Greek words. Hydro, which means water and ponics, which means labor.Countries like Germany, Netherlands and Australia are trying to use hydroponics for the purpose of growing herbs.
Compared with gardening on soil; there are different advantages of hydroponic gardening. If two similar plants are offered in similar conditions to grow but one is under normal soil gardening method and the other is hydroponic gardening method, it is seen that the plant with hydroponic gardening grows 30-50 percent faster and effectively that the normal soil process.
There are different reasons for these various differences of growth of normal soil-grown plant and hydroponic plant. The growth of root gets stimulated with hydroponic gardening because this method uses extra oxygen and hence the plants absorb crucial nutrients much faster. The nutrients are directly sent to the root of the plant after mixing with water and this process is done quite a few times in a day.
Plant grown on hydroponic nutrients needs very few amount of energy and it can easily suck the required nutrients. The plant saves the energy and uses it afterwards to produce faster and to grow more fruit. Plants grown with hydroponic nutrients are also safe from the diseases, fungus and bug infestations.
Apart from that; hydroponic gardening also contributes towards environment. Plants grown with hydroponic gardening process needs much less water than the other forms of gardening. Thus, it used less water. The nutrients are recycled constantly and hence these plants want less water. The hydroponic also do not require regular usage of damaging pesticides. There is absolutely no chance of topsoil erosion as in hydroponic gardening, topsoil is not used. In this way, hydroponic gardening offers us many environmental profits too.
The growing medium of hydroponic gardening feature a proper airing system so that water and required nutrients can be supplied to the roots of the plant directly and easily. Different growing mediums toil well in dissimilar kinds of hydroponic gardening systems. Mainly Hydroton and expanded shale mediums are used for growing hydroponic plants, whether it is a flow type or ebb system.
Hydroton is comprehensive clay assemblage that is light in weight. This growing medium is light and airy and hence it allows abundance of oxygen to go through the root system of the plant. Both Hydroton and shale has the tendency to break down the nutrients and both can be reused. But, Hydroton is better than shale. These steady grow rocks never effect the pH balance.
Some excellent fruits and vegetables like grapes, melons, berries, leafy vegetables, etc are also grown by using indoor hydroponic gardens. It is an amazing sight to see the plants bearing excellent fruits and vegetables after hydroponic gardening.
