How To Take Care of Your Outdoor Garden

Posted by Lois O. Holmes

I am more passionate about working in the garden, unlike my husband who does it indifferently.I just love being outside no matter what I am doing or what the task. There are many trees in our spacious yard. We have oaks and pines which are very pleasing to look at. In spite of that, our time in the yard is spent neatening up the area. In the few recent years, numerous storms have passed by our area and as a consequence, left many debris in our yard. It made cleaning quite challenging. Me and my husband are just thankful that we have the solution (the ones we bought from the hardware that is) to our problems. We didn't have to worry anymore of cleaning up and compromising our not so young bodies. We often use the weed eater, leaf blower and the chain saw.We had several downed trees from the recent storms. It only left us the trunk, the body of the trees broke in two. The tree trunks that remained became my husband's little project. He made them into totem poles, carving some faces and animals with the help of a chain saw.

This house is very old, my mom and dad lived here for a very long time. When they were just new to this place, my mom saw how vast the yard was and planted a Wisteria vine. When my parents passed away, they left me the house. My home is where my heart is and it is in this house, where I feel most special. I am surrounded by all the beauty of the plants and trees. But I also inherited the problems of an older house and a yard overgrown with over 40 years worth of leaves, pine straw and wisteria that has literally taken over everything. The leaf blower that I bought is very useful in getting rid of the leaves, while the weed eater handles the rest. With wisteria, nevertheless, is quite difficult. To remove all the withering and damaged vines, the roots must be included and you may find it for yourself if ever you have one at your yard, how taxing it can be. I am a purist and by that I do not use something that is unnatural such as poison. Our yard is habitually visited by birds and animals, in search for their consumption and nutrition. I also want them to be fit and strong.

Because we are in the midst of summer here, and because we have to address the condition of the yard now, we do whatever we can to protect ourselves from the heat. The summers are hot and humid, always and sometimes so, it is best to just stay in. August, I believe, is the month that I hate the most because I can't stay outside for too long to enjoy what's out there due to the intolerable heat.

Annually, approximately 400 people die due to heat stroke. Some things you can do to protect yourself while you are outdoors in the summer are to be sure to stay hydrated.Drink plenty of good quality water, stay inside during the hottest part of the day, take frequent breaks, wear lightweight, light colored loose clothing, and wear a hat that has a good ventilation design. The things I never go outside without when I work in the yard are my hat, my water, my sunglasses and a sprayer that I fill with water and a drop of peppermint oil. I start working in the first hours of the morning or in the last hours of the afternoon. Also, when I feel tired, I know that I should stop and rest.

We've taken out the weeds and leaves, cut off the broken parts of the trees and now we'll be doing that all over again because Autumn is near. Nevertheless, it doesn't tire me because I love having Autumn. There is always a reason for me to stay in my garden!

Keep your yard clean by using a power equipment. Safe Home Products supplies wide assortments of garden equipments from chain saw to electric blower at reasonable price.
