Growing Crystal Gardens
If you do not have the size available to create an indoor rock garden but still want to know How To Build A Rock Garden, you can create many stunning Growing Crystal Gardens that will not require much space or time.
Start by selecting clear bowls or containers that are the size and shape you want for your location. Select from a choice of rocks and stones, different shapes and sizes work well, but by far the best choice is polished river stones of various colours or a colour scheme that matches the location where the Growing Crystal Gardens are going to be placed. If you are having trouble finding a clear container or the rocks and stones, visit your local aquarium outlet for both.
When choosing a container, select one that also has it's own lighting source as it will add to the Growing Crystal Gardens effect. The next step is to bring distilled water to a boil and add 2 oz or 4 tablespoons of Alum for each half-cup of water. Alum can be purchased at most health food stores or at local supermarkets in the spice aisle next to the pickling section. Stir until the Alum has totally dissolved in the water. Add the water to your chosen container and carefully place the rocks or stones into the solution leaving 1/4 of the solution free of stones or rocks. Within 30 minutes to an hour you will notice that the Growing Crystal Gardens start to take shape and make a great display piece.
